In August 2022, we are expecting a few interesting stories in the packaging world. Here’s what we can expect to read: Constantia Flexibles announces three new sustainable packaging options; YewMaker and Connect In Pharma announce the shortlist for the Sustainable Medicines Packaging Awards; and SunDance introduces a biodegradable, compostable paper pouch.
Constantia Flexibles introduces three new sustainable packaging options
Constantia Flexibles has introduced a new product family, EcoLam, which is made from a polypropylene monopolymer laminate and can be recycled. This solution offers the same level of product protection from light, oxygen, and water vapour as conventional multilayer packaging, but with minimal environmental impact. It also offers high material recovery, with up to 96% depending on the final configuration.
Constantia Flexibles is committed to recycling as much of its packaging as possible. It has pledged to achieve 100% recycled packaging solutions by 2025, with a particular focus on plastics. It has also set an absolute target for GHG emissions reduction. The company carefully monitors the impact of its products on the environment, and performs life cycle assessments to ensure that all packaging solutions are as environmentally friendly as possible.
Constantia Flexibles has partnered with FFP Packaging Solutions, a UK-based manufacturer of flexible packaging. FFP has been a trusted partner for major food brands and retailers for years. Its Northampton, UK-based manufacturing facility employs over 100 people.
The company’s new sustainable packaging options include biodegradable packaging materials and compostable film. Food manufacturers are increasingly turning to alternative packaging solutions. For example, Syntegon has developed a paper-based push-through blister packaging. Another company, ProAmpac, has partnered with Purition to launch a biodegradable paper pouch for meal shakes

Challenges of real-time authentication in packaging
Real-time authentication in packaging is a promising technology that can help companies monitor and protect their products. This technology can detect and intercept shipments that may be diverted. This can help prevent lost revenue due to theft or counterfeiting. It can also help businesses comply with health care reforms and regulations.
But the technology also comes with many challenges. One of the major hurdles is the integration of smart devices into packaging. It’s complicated and costly to integrate these devices into existing packaging lines. Additionally, there are security concerns associated with such technologies. As a result, smart packaging may only be feasible if the packaging is fitted with remote-reading chips, or if it has home devices that can read these chips.https://www.youtube.com/embed/8rWu5UlzZHs
